Pool Supplies
Many pool supplies are available for cleaning and maintaining
a swimming pool. One of the most widely used tool for cleaning a pool
is a skimmer. A skimmer is a net attached to a long aluminum pole. It
is used to clean floating debris out of the water, such as leaves, by
skimming the surface with the net. Skimming prevents larger debris from
clogging filters and causing further trouble, and should be done whenever
needed.
Another useful pool supply is a brush. They are stiff bristled, roughly
a foot wide, and are also attached to a long aluminum pole. The brush
is used to clean the bottom and side walls of a pool, much like a broom.
Smaller debris that has settled on the bottom of a pool can be easily
cleaned by directing the brush sweeps towards the filter. For major
settled debris, a pool vacuum is recommended. Pool vacuums are often
motorized and automatic, allowing them to be dropped into a pool then
left alone for a period of time. Many are safe enough to allowing water
activities while cleaning takes place. Other vacuums must be connected
to a suction hose and manually steered across the bottom of a pool with
a pole.
A test kit is one of the most important pool supplies. To safely swim,
the water inside a swimming pool must be the correct pH, and have the
correct levels of chlorine, bromine, and alkalinity. Most kits are very
easy to use, and only take a few minutes. They involve collecting a
water sample from the pool, then adding certain chemicals that will
change the color of the water indicating the pH, chlorine levels and
more.
