Pool Toys
Many pool toys are available for children and adults,
and come in a variety of shapes. Noodles are very popular, and are made
from soft non absorbent foam. They can be connected together to create
rafts or various other playful devices. They are approved for use at
most public swimming pools because they cannot deflate or sink, making
them suitable floatation devices.
Inflatable pool toys are the most widely used. They are generally made
from flexible vinyl and can be easily inflated and deflated. Since they
are filled with air, they easily float, and can be swimming aids. Many
inflatable toys carry a risk of suffocation, or drowning, as children
can get into deeper, unsafe waters and then have the toys unexpectedly
deflate. Rafts and beach balls are popular inflatable toys.
Many pool toys don’t float at all, instead they are designed to
sink quickly to the bottom of the pool. Diving rings and other sinking
toys are good practice for swimming, teaching underwater propulsion
and breathing skills. Children can be entertained and effectively worn
out by throwing and then retrieving diving rings. Always check and follow
safety precautions that are printed on toys and toy packaging.
